Hello Folks,

Looking ahead, I will need to cover both my new-to-me MX-210 8 x 16 Lathe and HiTorque 6500 Bench Mill, as I will be doing a fair amount of grinding/ wire-wheeling/buffing in the same small tool room where they will reside. In a pinch I will use a couple of moving blankets, but I'm wondering if anyone makes dust covers for these machines?

LittleMachineShop has a cover designed to fit a 7 x 14 lathe but I'm not sure if it will fit, and I can't find anything for a bench-top mill.

Thanks in advance!

I doubt that will fit an 8x16: I have one and it’s a perfect fit for my 7x16.

You might try calling or emailing LMS and ask their opinion; or get your SO to make covers:

BBQ grill covers are cheap and available in many dimensions.

I use old fitted bed sheets. Washable, inexpensive and all cotton.
I’ve tried grill covers, but they’re stiff. Re-cut & seen sheets (fitted or not, depending on the machine size) work well: lightweight (so you’ll use them more often), thin (so any moisture evaporates faster) and (most importantly) cheap!

I bought a couple of 9'X12' canvas drop cloths from Harbor Freight to cover my machines with when I have other activities that might cause them issues, the have a smaller one as well.

My wife used one old sofa cover for the bed on my mill and had a couple sized pieces of sunbrella fabric for my 9x20 lathe, Starrett 14” height gauge, Atlas 7b shaper, my U3 tool grinder and 3n1 shear, brake, roller. Rust never sleeps here and powder coat drifts everywhere not to mention grinding dust. Covers are a great way keep everything in good shape because without them it’s pretty much a mess. The great thing about sunbrella is it’s water proof but breathes. Plastic is a bozo nono.

I saved the wood shipping crate from my lathe, makes a great cover and can throw a small lamp under it to help keep things dry. just finishing my shop interior build and looking at the damage from rust to my stuff just during the build is making me nauseous. in my area the hot cold cycles during the summer make everything sweat and lead to lots of rust.
