I've decided I want a DRO on the lathe. I'm working on projects that require boring and it's awkward to try to set up a dial indicator each time.
To that end, I'm asking folks with similar lathes what to look for. How hard is it to mount the scales on the machine? What issues do I need to be aware of?
And, what size scales are best for the 12x36 Logan?

Hello. I can't speak to what size scales to use on a 12X36, but recently installed a DRO on my mill. It was a bit of time and patience to carefully drill mount holes. Another item to consider is that you'll most likely have to fabricate a mount for the sensor. I purchased a magnetic scale Aikron DRO from Machine Tool Products and have been very pleased.

An Igaging Absolute scale might be a good choice if you just wanted carriage travel- you can add scales later also. They are available up to 36",
and are compatible with Touch DRO

Suggest you try this question at the Groups.io (https://groups.io/g/Lathe-List) forum Scott Logan moderates. Many long time owners there who have mentioned putting DROs on their lathes,
