If you needed a specific size dove tail or t slot cutter, would you buy a set, or two of the specific size you need? I’m thinking two of each in the size I need. This is the first time I’ve needed to do either operation, and I don’t imagine it’s the beginning of a run. Just a one time deal more than likely.

For whichever you suggest, please provide your logic. I depend heavily on other people’s brains. Thanks!

If you get carbide insert cutters, they will far outlast the HSS cutters, and it is much cheaper to replace an insert or three than to replace a multi flute HSS cutter. I have some nice multi flue HSS dovetail cutters. I try not to ever use them now that I have a Randy Richard insertable dovetail cutter, which works GREAT!

Most of my dovetail cuts are for gun sights, not many inserted cutters in that size range.
I always buy smaller cutters in pairs, having a backup allows room for getting something wrong without subsequently having to wait for tooling to arrive in the post.
