I got my tach from MKC Tools http://mkctools.com/tachulator.htm pretty easy to install, I also have a hand tach so I check it ti the one from MKC.

I have it on my 13" South Bend, Was going to get a picture of the SFM but camera went dead. I just put a piece of black tape on the spindle half the Dia. of it works ok. I'll get the rest of the pictures of the install when I get the battery charged up.

The cheap Chinese reflective type works well for me.I have installed a permanent
indicator on drilling machine. This one has magnetic sensing (three small magnets
an a Hall effect sensor) and i designed and made it some years ago.For the lathe
and milling machine I rely on indicated rpm verified by the Chinese handheld.

The tach I got was made in Canada close enough to USA for me, I used the cheap Chinese tach to see if there was much difference.

If I moved the hand held I could get it to read the same. I used the reflective tape for the hand held one. I just used some black tape for the other.

To Paul.
Please clarify how,by moving your hand managed to get same readings from both tachos.I mean,if there is
a way to modify the reading of the reflective one i would like very much to know how.
Thank you in advance

just moved it on a angle not straight up and down, I guess a better word would I tilted it. Doesn't take much, I'll try and get a picture if I can get the wife to help.

Looking for a Rotary table for Taig mill

Any help figuring out what one to get would be great!

I've read of a few other guys using reflective tape and the cheaper handheld readers on their lathes with good results. I'm thinking of doing this down the road because I think it'll greatly help my newbie self.
