Digimatic indicator with TouchDRO?

Hi all,

I've got this watchmakers lathe... there isn't anywhere to put traditional scales, so digital indicators are the usual way to work. Also, the crossslide and indicator set up has to some on and off the lathe easily to use other attachments, like for milling and gear cutting. This is ok, as far as it goes, but I come from a 'full size' machinery background, and I'd really like full DRO functionality.

Can TouchDRO work with SPC output digital indicators, like the Mitutoyo brand ones? If the answer is 'definitely' then that's great, all steam ahead. If it's 'probably' then I'll take the plunge at my own risk.... if it's 'no' then I can just carry on with the current set up..

Thank you!

Chris

I know the iGaging adapter boards work with the iGaging digital dial indicator I've got... I imagine it'll work with basically any cheap digital indicator that has a mini-USB port on it.

Though I believe the iGaging adapter boards are DIY-only now.

Chris,

TouchDRO can work with SPC output digital indicators like the Mitutoyo ones. Many users have successfully integrated these indicators with TouchDRO systems to achieve full DRO functionality on smaller lathes. It might require some setup adjustments, but it should be a feasible solution. Go ahead and take the plunge if you're ready for a bit of DIY integration!

Good luck!

Chris,
TDA-400/420 boxes support SPC protocol. In a few days I will have the adapters that I showed in this thread: https://www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/new-accessories-for-touchdro-tda-400-420-adapters.113139/ ready for sale. I have them physically, but need to update the store and add the listings.
I haven't tested them with the indicator in the photo, but as far as I know, Mitutoyo uses the same output wiring on all of it's modern indicators.

Regards
Yuriy

Thats really helpful, thank you! As soon as they are available I'll buy them, and let you know how I go..
