Diamond Wheels for Carbide

A few years ago, I bought 2 of these wheels. Didn't expect much at first, but they turned out to be great wheels for sharpening brazed carbides.

Can't beat the price, even though his shipping has risen quite a bit. The ID is a strange size, so I made two different arbors to mount them in the lathe chuck.

The original idea was to build a cheaper version of a tool and cutter grinder, but health got in the way. Probably never build it now.

I've used them a bunch and they are still as sharp as when bought.

If you use them like I did, cover your ways real good. I bought the 200 for roughing, and a 600 for finishing. Then hand hone with a diamond 1000.

It would be real easy to carfully clamp the grinding wheel in the mill. Indicate in by the existing hole and use a boring head to open up the hole to a standard size.
I have a couple of diamond wheels that need the ID opened up to fit my 1.250" arbors...get around to it one of these days!

Diamond wheels can last several years. In one tool shop that I worked in a few years ago, we had a diamond wheel that had been in almost constant use for 16 years and still had some life in it. If you treat them properly they will likely last a lifetime.
