I just got my new Enco catalog. The prices in general have gone up, but wow, plated diamond wheel have just about doubled in price. What gives? I guess I will just have to be happy with the ones I have got.

Well there is a resession and Tiffiany needs to sell their diamonds somewhere!;)

You can buy diamond plated thin metal discs from Rio Grande jewelry supply. I have thought about just buying those discs and gluing them down to my 6" wheels on my Accu Sharp(?) type grinder, made by Sunnen.

For the regular Baldor style grinders, they might not work,as the diamonds are not a full disc.

That will work well George, those discs are diamond impregnated laps for faceting work. Make sure to keep them well lubricated though or you'll knock the boart off and have dead spots/grooves. I use an old faceting machine (think disc sander only the wheel is horizontal) with an aluminum "lap" wheel and these discs. (I use em for stone though, like intended.....

I just ordered a 1200 grit 6" diamond wheel from Enco, because I had been wanting to,and got their new catalog today. I saw that they had discontinued the type wheels I wanted. The machine I wanted them for is a horizontal/vertical diamond grinder that is 200 RPM. It is made by Sunnen, but is essentially the same as an Accu Sharp(is that the correct name?) The wheels are 6" diameter, with a small flat head screw in their centers. The flat side of the wheel is diamond plated.

They still had some in stock,so I had to act.

Anyhow,I got a wheel for the same price as last year,$142.00. Got 10% off my first order of the year over $50.00 from Enco.

P.S.: I just looked at my new 2012 Enco catalog, and a 6" Baldor style wheel with 1" wide diamond plated face is only $12.00 more than last year. What diamond wheels in particular have doubled in price? I don't think $12.00 is hurting us too much.

I don't know, maybe they were on sale, but I got my 6x 3/4- 150 and 220 for $86 each last year.
