Detent ball out of downfeed wheel on BP clone

Anyone have a trick to get a stuck detent ball out of the shaft in the assembly that engages the downfeed? I have tried magnets and heat with no luck.

Sometimes the balls are stuck because the hole is buggered up... Try cleaning it out by hand with a drill bit, burr tool or whatever you can get in there. Spray it with penetrating oil and work the mechanism back and forth as you try to pull it out with a magnet. If the hole is clear, it should come out with a magnet. It might be mushroomed over some...

Magnet from an old hard drive stuck to an allen wrench. Use the allen wrench to fish the ball out.
