DELTA DRILL PRESS 20’’ #3 MORSE VARIABLE SPEED TILTING TABLE SEE VIDE0 - $1,200

I might be missing something, but I don't see any mechanism for tilting the table. I looked at the video and the only thing it shows in the spindle spinning for 40 seconds. No shots of the variable speed, table or anything else. Just the empty spindle spinning.

Of the 2 non American made machines in my shop 1 is a Jet JDP-125VS3 drill press. It's nearly identical to the Rockwell for sale here. Mine came from a shop that was closing. It has a 1 1/2 hp, 2 speed motor for drilling and taping. Originally it would auto feed on high speed to drill to whatever depth you preset it to, slow to the lower speed for tapping to a second preset depth, reverse and retract.

The motor speed change and auto reverse features weren't working when I purchased it. In the interim I've simplified the controls to forward and reverse, and use the variable sheaves to adjust speed. I saved all the original controls and will return it to original when time allows.

Attached are 2 pictures of my machine as it exists today, and 1 picture in it's original state. I think I paid less than 10% of the asking price of the Rockwell.

Yup, typical silliness. There is no tilting mechanism on the table. Maybe he thought because it has a lift he just said tilt instead of lift? Dunno. I didn’t even bother with the vid as 99.9% of the time its a waste. Because of another thread of a “unused“ Clausing DP for $3k I was surfing and saw this so posted. Right now American iron of whatever shape or make seems to be at a premium. We all have different needs and buy accordingly. Me, I don’t like or need a floor standing DP but needed something with a larger than usual reach, height. I was lucky to get a deal from a member here for $650 for Rockwell UniDrill. I knew by looking at it, it was what I‘d been wishing for and never even knew existed. Doesn’t have reverse, but vari-drive, 2’ arm and head tilts 45deg either way.

I've always liked the concept of the UniDrill, however I'm more interested in a radial drill for my shop. There seem to be several 3' to 4' models available on eBay, but as you mentioned they're way over priced. There are several larger ones available in our area for less than half the asking price. Trouble is I don't have room for, or work for the larger models. For now I'll bide my time until one that fits my needs and pocket book comes up for sale.

There are a couple of radial arm drills along the size of the UniDrill out east of LA. Both in probably rough shape and for more than what I paid. Sometimes the huge floor standing radial arms are cheaper because they are huge. Most of the radial arm I’ve seen didn’t tilt. I mostly got the UniDrill because of the huge work envelope tilt head and price. Things go crazy price wise below a certain point and if it’s American it’s too much $$$ for way less drill.
