De-palletted the 1660

I finally got the 1660 off it's pallet. Most of the holdup was waiting on the gantry and a shackle believe it or not. I think it wound up taking me about 3 hours to get it to balance. I had already run the tailstock and saddle to the extremes of travel. It still wasn't even close to balanced. It wanted to be headstock heavy by quite a bit, and very rear heavy. I pretty much grabbed every handy piece of cast in the shop (the things in the pan are old stockyard scale weights if you wondered), and that balanced her out almost perfectly. I'll stick some pictures in here just in case anyone else needs to ballpark one.

I'll just use the 20 ton toe jack to set it down the rest of the way. Then I can commence to pull my hair out leveling it.

Nice lathe! But actually I’m more intrigued with the box of cut nails — they look brand new and of excellent quality. Dare I ask what you use them for? I’m in the architectural restoration field so I run across the old ones all the time, just never seen a whole box of brand new ones like that.

Yeah, I had bought them for the future tongue and groove ceiling in the mancave (which I still haven't gotten to). They are in fact brand new, and made by Tremont Nail, who's been making them on the same machinery since 1830-ish. They're not horribly expensive, and they have a ton of different styles and sizes of them. I think they have some stuff on Youtube, and I had remembered them from ol' Bob Vila having them on a show way back.

Have about half a box Frank, found them in a barn. Slightly rusted but mostly still bare metal.
