My comments were a fair bit worse than "Dang It" yesterday when I broke this lead screw nut on the cross slide.
I thought about ordering a new one from Grizzly, but they are about $25, fixing this is going to be part of my punishment for being so damn stupid. I was putting the cross slide back on and adjusting the back lash. I was pushing/pulling on the cross slide as I tightened the grub screw putting more pressure on the tab. I did this a little at a time until it broke. Problem here was I should have been turning the hand wheel and NOT pushing on the cross slide. The backlash I was feeling by pushing on the cross slide was from the nut on the hand wheel and had nothing to do with the lead screw and nut.
So, I think I may try to slit the nut as it was, drill and tap a hole in the new tab. And get at the new screw from the back instead of the top. I think i could use a standard bolt to compress the tab toward the nut.
