My experience with machine tools is non-existant. I don't have much I can contribute. I am here to learn what I can. At the same time, I feel like I should contribute to the general knowledge base as much as I can.
I spend a lot of time with Google Books. From their digitized collection of old magazines and books I have gathered a small treasure trove of ideas that I would have never come up with on my own. Here is one:

This is of course limited to slotting a hub if you have a keyed shaft or vise versa. But it is a solution to a problem that otherwise would require an arbor press, a shaper, slotter, or mill. None of which I have in my shop. But I do have a grinder and a hammer.

I searched for but did not find a similar thread. There were several threads concerning slotting. But none that I saw offered a method to cut a slot by hand.
