ADM. can you help me find parts for this Old craftsman 6" 109-21280 lathe. Have tried to find , help here before. I
Need some Parts, A Rack (Back Gear). And the Small gear that runs in it. (Do not know what it is called.) I need a Manuel , do not know where to find one? I think it might be a British Manf. AA , Ann Foundry, . I found a picture of a lathe on this , Hobby-Machinist , just like mine. To all , I am not a Machinist, however, I want to fix this Old Lathe to give to my Grandson, who will Graduate from High School , this coming June. At high school in , Southern, Pa. Greencastle, Pa. A bit of info. The Lathe , is in good shape , looks like not being used much. Why it's missing the parts , I do not know. The ORIGIONAL owner passes away , some 6 years ago I think. His wife gave it to me.
I am asking for someone's help , please , help me find the Gears and Screws, to mount them?
If you will, help ,me , I call me , Dave 304-788-3637 . Or email me , davebrantnerwv@earthlink.net. Mention , Craftsman 109 Lathe.

Your best bet would be to contact Cab ( Robert ) one of our staff members . I'm sure he'll see this and will chime in . :)

Sorry, I don’t have any parts for your lathe. Just posted a link to an old thread with the same model number.

If you need the rack and the gear that runs in it you can try McMaster-Carr since you only need the parts to mate with each other.

Chucks are easily available and backplates should be too.

I’m not familiar with a sacamatic so can’t help there.

Best of luck to you, maybe someone else here has parts but if I were you I’d edit your phone number off this thread. Never know who’s watching on the internet.

Cheers,

John

Dave, this link should take you to a PDF copy of instructions and parts list for the 109.21280 lathe. The document is at Keith Rucker’s VintageMachinery website and it’s free to look at or download. Sorry can’t help on the parts though, good luck.

Unfortunately, about all that I can tell you about it is that it was apparently made for Sears for a short time in the early 1960's as a replacement for the 109.21260. It was made by the AA or Double-A Company and that 109.21280 is a valid Sears model number. Probably by this time, Craftsman. I think that they discontinued use of Dunlap sometime in the 1950's. However, I have either PDF scans or originals of most if not all of the Power Tools or Power & Hand Tools catalogs from 1931 until 1976 and although they briefly sold it, it does not seem to have ever appeared in the catalogs. It is most similar to the Sears 101.07301 in that it has sleeve bearings. But it has planetary gears instead of back gears. And supposedly has the spindle nose threaded 1"-10, the same as the Craftsman 101.21400 and Atlas 618 and all of the other Atlas 6" machines. However, it only has a 3-groove spindle pulley so it is a 6-speed machine, not 8 like all of the Atlas built machines. And one note that I have says that it is a V-bed machine, not flat bed like all of the Atlas machines or semi-circular key like the earlier four AA models. But I have no confirmation of that. The parts manual calls the ways "prismatic" which could mean most anything. And the drawings in the manual that has recently appeared on Vintage Machinery don't seem to answer the question. Probably the Atlas change gears will fit it.

Incidentally, the scan of the parts manual, aside from a few of the part key numbers not being legible and a couple of other places that I noticed is the first on-line and free for download manual that I have seen (aside from ones done for the Signal Corps, DN or DA and paid for with tax money) that is almost acceptable quality.

That is I think all that I know about it.
