Hello,
Does anyone know what size thread is on the end of the spindle (circled in red)?
Thanks in advance

Mine looks to be 16 TPI, with diameter of the spindle at tops of the threads of ~3/4" This threaded end of the spindle is made to accept collar M6-32.
I see there's a standard fine (NF) thread of 3/4-16, for what that's worth.

It appears that the parts sheet is for a anti friction bearing, the one pictured is a plain bearing machine (if that matters).

Welcome to the forum.

The outer end of the spindle on my craftsman 12x36, model 101-28910 is 1.250 x 20 tpi.

edit: Oops. Me bad I didn't realize you had a 6" craftsman lathe.

The unthreaded portion of the spindle on my Atlas/Craftsman 6x18 measures .750" Over the threads, I measure .728" A 3/4-16 tap will start but not get past the taper on the collar and I can't start a 3/4-16 die on the spindle thread. .728" seems undersized for a 3/4-16 thread. The definitive procedure would be to measure the pitch diameter.

I double checked the thread o.d. under the gear and it measured .7486". I also confirmed a 16 tpi pitch. My lathe model is 101.214 and the parts diagram is the same as in post #2 above.

William3954 - Just out of curiosity, why did you inquire about the size of the outboard thread? Are you missing collar M6-32 and trying to replace or fabricate it, or? Inquiring minds and all that...

RJ,

Minor point but there should be 4 or 5 digits following the period or decimal point in the model number, not 3.
