Hello All,
I am completely new to machining and recently purchased a 101.07403. SN - 3761S. 42" Bed (Robert if you see this I looked for a thread on where to post this but couldn't find it).
The lathe is extremely dirty. It looks like someone put it down dirty then continued to woodwork around it. So about everything was/is covered with decades old oil and saw dust.
I figured the best way to learn about the machine and also the easiest way to get it clean would be to take what I can apart. I hope to document it here and maybe help some other new owners.
I have got my hands on the Atlas Manual of Lathe Operations, and also the parts list. I have read the manual of operations a few times and studied the parts list. While it has been a great source of information it hasn't helped on this. I will reference the parts list when trying to explain my problem.
The 4 step pulley (10-80) on the counter-shaft seems to be shifted to the left and is contacting the large back gear (10-243). I first tried to pull out the set screw in the pulley and slide it over, however it wouldn't budge. I then pulled the set screw on the 2 step pulley (9-427) and used a 2-jaw puller to pop it off (which was a bear). And loosened the set screw on the collar (L3-98) which moves freely. I then tried to use a 3-jaw puller on the pulley (10-80), well it really didn't want to come free and I felt like any more force would break something. Looking inside the pulley there is a slot, is there a key i'm fighting against? It doesn't mention it in the parts list. Any ideas?
I could set the collar the the left some to move the whole assembly to the right, but i'm unsure that when I replace the two step pulley (9-427) that the set screw wont pull it right back.
Let me know what you guys think! Looking forward to it.
Thanks!
Kyle
