Short story----- I want to build a Horz. press-------- what is the correct name for the bearing I underlined.

You could probably get away with a bronze bushing rather than a ball bearing linear bearing etard posted. Bronze bushings will work in rotation or linearly.

But yeah...linear bearing.
 
I am going to shop around -----I had planned on going with a 3/4 inch rod to stop any flexing. Even with ebay prices your still looking at a fair size pile of quarters.
 
Check out this part from Mcmaster 2868T185

3/4" inner diameter, 2" length, 1" OD. This would work really nice with a piece of 3/4" drill rod. Price on the bushing is $5.27 US.
 
Yup----a pen press----I like that design it just lacks any quality.
 
If you have any local mom N pop hardware stores look at the bushings in the hardware drawers. I use the locals all the time for whatever they have I need. Hate buying a 2$ part and paying shipping or having to buy 100pcs vice the 2 screws I need.
