compound angles

I know this involves trigonometry but I was hoping for a chart to guide me. When I face a work piece, I want to close in on a precise dimention. I lock the apron and turn the compound rest about 30 degrees and move the compound dial a few thousands (1 to 5), and make a pass with the cross feed. I would like to know the relationship between the angle of the compound in degrees, to the distance moved longitudinally by the tool post. Or:
if the compound rest is set at 30 degrees to the cross feed, and is moved .001" how far does the compound movie longitudinally? I tried to use Trig but, no soap. Rr

I just saw a mr.pete video on this!

At 30* there's a 2:1 ratio.

He mentioned doing at a 10:1 ratio, but the degrees escape me. Want to say 84?

thanks Dr Fiero for the fast response. I searched mr pete and came up with nothing but porn videos. Must be another pete. Rr
