I am new to machining but have the desire to learn. Purchased a the Emco 8 at an estate sale it came with the mill and drill unit. However I do not have any way of attaching tooling to the unit. I don't have the collet attachment or Jacobs chuck. Looking for suggestions on where I can purchase either one or both, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you post a picture or 3 of the attachment and lathe you are talking about so we have some sort of reference to what we are dealing with?

As far as I know, the Compact 5 and 8 used the same milling attachment. It took an ESX-25 collet chuck; these are rare nowadays but here is one that I think is an EX-25 chuck but billed as an ER-25: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Emco-Compa...h=item5b52e99b5f:g:OzwAAOSwoF5cXCRS:rk:9:pf:0. Email the seller and clarify that it will fit the Compact 8 milling spindle and ESX-25 collets. The chuck and spindle are both listed as a 14mm X 1 so it should fit.

Blue Ridge sells the complete ESX-25 collet set for almost $600! Crazy.

I tried to find out if ER collets will fit into an ESX chuck and it appears they will. There are a few sellers of ESX-25 collets on ebay that you might check on. From time to time, ESX-25 collets turn up on ebay but sell for very high prices. If an ER-25 collet will fit and work then that would be a cheaper option.

The drill chuck supplied by Emco was a 14mm X 1 threaded Rohm keyed chuck. This screwed directly onto the threaded end of the spindle. These are also hard to find but here is one that I think will fit. You will need to contact the seller to confirm the thread: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Bohrfutter...=item3647b35b97:g:N-QAAOSwFEpakn0c:rk:11:pf:0

Gentlemen, thank you both for your replies. The milling attachment is the one that came from Emco, so Mikey's advice is applicable. I will contact the Ebay sellers listed to get clarification on the suitability for my machine. Thanks to both of you again.
