OK cleaning my shop today and noticed I have started getting some rust spots on tools I do not use that often. They were wiped down with WD-40, but probably need to develop a good way to put tools up. Rust is showing on parallels and my TTS tooling for the mill.

Also, on another note I am getting frustrated in my small area with all of my carts and toolboxes having only two swivel casters. Almost impossible to maneuver where I want. One has metal wheels and is noisy so time to flip them and get some dimensions for replacement swivel casters. Just curious if anyone else has replaced all of their tools boxes with all swivels.

I have a Matco 2 drawer rolling cart with all swivel casters. Sure is nice in tight spaces. I have thought about switching on the Kennedy's, but I don't move them around much anyway, so I probably won't.

try to locate some of those silica packs and stick them in various drawers in your box.... i also have one stuck in my mig welder in the drive roll compartment, just thought it would keep rust down on the wire, seems to work.

Those gel packs do work, although you should dry them out once in a while in an oven at 200 f. I use them in several places around the shop. Particularly inside electrical control panels.

That might work on some tools, but the ones I am referring too are actually not stored on a drawer or toolbox, but sitting out. Really no way to fit a lot of these inside a drawer. Figured others may have a wipe down storage steps they go through before storing.

Here in Florida, best for all you tools and machines
Get a dehumidifier... set it at 35% humidity.
55 years as a machinist I found out whats works best
In your machinist tool box...
Get some Camphor blocks from the drug store.
They come about 1/2" X 2" Sq.blocks
Cut the block in quarters but leave the plastic wrapper on ..1/4 block in each drawer.
Keep the tool box draws close when not in use.

When the Camphor evaporates just replace with a new block.

When I check my Grandfathers, my fathers machinist box that I don't open for years, still have a small chunk of Camphor inside .

Wd-40

DON'T WIPE DOWN YOUR TOOLS WITH WD-40!!!!!

WD-40 is the worst stuff to use! WD-40 will start rust! Especially if you live in a humid enviroment. If you are getting that light brown rust, that's from WD-40 use.

Go buy some Starrett M-1, best stuff you can get for perserving your tools with.

The Little Machine Shop on line has it on sale right now, at a good price.

LPS-1 or CRC 3-33 is good too for long storage preservation.

Dave, some use it for emphasis. Not every shout is rude.

Of course, Dave. All forums and IRC channels consider all caps to be shouting. I was just making the comment that sometimes the motive is not to be rude, but just emphatic.

Yep, bold is still available, and so are italics, as well as underscore

I take it as that most of the time as well Tony.
I still can't find anything for bold Dave. Do I have to change a setting?
