Hello all,

I recently purchased a Clausing 5914. I’m moving it to my basement shop so I had to take it all apart. so I might as well give it a bath. I pulled the top cover to the headstock just to see how everything looked and on the fork lever that goes from the forward reverse switch to the back gear shaft is a spring about half way up. Only 1 end was attached. The other end has no eyelet on it so I figured the eye broke off. But after looking I’m confused, because even if it had an eye I see no where for it to attach to anyway....someone please set me straight and show me what I’m missing. Thanks!

I have a parts manual along with a 5917 lathe . Perhaps I can get a pic today .

Thank you both. In the parts it shows the spring, it shows it attached at the top by a “screw” which mine is, it doesn’t show it attached to anything at the bottom which mine isn’t.....unless it’s there to let oil drip onto the shelf it overhangs. But I don’t see anything on that shelf that need oil.
