If you haven’t tried the stainless steel foil wrap you are creating more work for yourself.
These are right out of the heat treat oven, right out of the oil and wiped down.
A piece of paper in the pouch consumes any remaining oxygen.
The large pieces are 4140, the small ones are O1.

I already made some of these clamps but the slot was too narrow for 1/4x20.
Next step, to the surface grinder.

Is the foil re-usable or is it a one time thing?

I know that controlling the atmosphere during heat treat is important for some metals but haven't pursued the finer details of the processes.

The pallet and clamps look great! I've never messed with foil on water/oil hardening steels, as I don't like fiddling with dumping the red hot metal out of the pouch. I just soak the parts in plain old grocery store white vinegar overnight, and the scale basically wipes right off, any stubborn bits go away with a light scrubbing of scotch-brite. Just hardened this (1095 quenched in Parks 50 oil ) knife blade the other day. Put it in vinegar before bed, and it cleaned right up after breakfast the next morning.

The foil would not be reusable, at least in my opinion. It is hard to work with as it is.

After being ground.
To blue or not to blue??
Since the shop is climate controlled, no blue for these parts.
