Circular Hacksaw Blades ? Vek Tools ?

They looked interesting untill I got to

BLADE LIFE
This will vary depending on the material cut and method of use, using 210mm dia blade we performed the following:

  • 20 cuts through cliplock decking (400mm wide x 45mm high rib x 0.0065mm thick) in comparison a fibre wheel lasted 3 full depth cuts through the cliplock decking material.
  • 5 cuts through 50mm x 50mm x 6mm mild steel angle
  • 4 cuts through 75mm x 50mm x 6mm rolled hollow section
  • 3 cuts through 25mm x 50mm x 3mm rolled hollow section
  • 2 cuts through 20mm dia mild steel solid rod
  • 5 cuts through 10mm dia mild steel solid rod
  • 3 cuts through 50mm x 6mm flat mild steel
  • 10 cuts through cliplock decking (400mm wide x 45mm rib x 0.065mm thick)

Although if ur cutting the thin sheet stuff their talking about its not so bad.

I definitly can cut more than 5 cuts in 10mm rod with a hand hacksawblade.

Stuart,

My impression is that the report says the blade did all of the above and was still in very good condition and ready to cut more.

"At the end of this test session the blade was still cutting smoothly and cleanly, the only indication of wear being scuffing on the cutting surfaces of the blade and a small chip off on 1 tooth."

Ah ok, well thats different then :)

Theirs a range of bladed chop saws that started to appear about a year or so ago hear called evelution rage, i've seen many faverouble reviews of them so maybe. But they do have dedicated tool to put them in

It says its to be used in an angle grinder or circular saw, so it must be quite high rpms.

I just had a look at the evolution blades, they have 4000 rpm rating, and similar large tooth to back up the tct

Hey Bill,

Not exactly the same product, but I recently replaced my (smoky, noisy, sparky) abrasive cut-off saw with something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Morse-CSM14MB...wer-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1429153806&sr=1-13
Mine is "ProPoint" brand from Princess Auto, but Harbor Freight in the US usually has similar product.

The initial cuts produced a mirror surface on 1" solid square bar.....but after going thru some nasty stainless bar, it makes less-pretty cuts, but is still way faster than the band-saw.
I bought a new blade, but have not installed it yet as the old one is still serviceable. I am happy with it overall.

I have recently been considering saws with counter-rotating blades, like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Ridgid-ZRR325...=1429154400&sr=1-1&keywords=ridgid+twin+blade
but have not made the plunge yet.

I went to the link above. Gotta love it when you click on "see more product details" on Amazon, and they tell you the color. I have looked at these saws before and had the impression that when they talked about cutting steel it was thin stock. If you do decide to get the saw, I am sure others was well as myself would be interested in hearing how it can handle your 1" square stock.

I have read that they work well for re-bar in concrete work.

Ideally I'd like a cordless one so I could go to the shed (no power) and hack off a small piece of stock to bring into the shop. Was thinking about leaving the oxy-actylene rig out there, but I need it as a heat-wrench in the shop.

There was a "used" one in my favourite local tool shop, I'll ask for a demo if it's still there on my next trip. Who knows maybe it'll follow me home.
