I have been restoring a Lewis mill so I just got back to this project.

This is a $8 Amazon 4" carbon Fiber Caliper. In the 1st photo you can see a long temp set screw hold the bracket on, shorter one coming. I put 2 screws through the caliper to mount it to the bracket. I did not want to drill any new holes so I used a very strong magnet from K & J Magnetics. I very carefully buffed the jaw until it fit he hole in the magnet. It works very well, so far!

Finally after months of looking, I have a Rockwell vertical mill being shipped Tuesday and as soon as it gets here, I can finish part 3.

Curious me again, I suspect this is for drilling or maybe a boring head. So what happens, when just
about all tailstock quills give that little first twist does the caliper mounts flex?
Good work there, extremley helpful using a boring head. sam

I think the magnet would slide a little for any twist nice mount.. Ray

So far it has not moved when I used it. It's a very powerful magnet!

This lathe only has a 1" range but it is still very helpful.
