I picked up a rather large variety of carbide inserts, some have numbers, most do not, Anyone know of a way to find out what holders fit what bits? like some sort of a cross-fererence chart? thanks

Carbide Depot has a Technical Resources section with all sorts of charts, etc.

First you have to ID the insert for an approximate designation. The above mentioned is sort of the go to. Almost all of the machinery catalogs have a couple of pages showing what you want to know. Below is a link that might help.

It will help to have an angle gauge, A couple of drills or dowel pins to gauge the inscribed circle and a dial caliper to get a good reading on thickness and hole diameter. Also just Google the part number. You would be surprised on how many times that works.

Then your home free. Just search for TPU (or whatever) holders or carbide insert holders. Amazon, Ebay, or just the internet. The machinery catalog will have the holders listed as to what insert they fit. With the example above. the holder will probably be listed for TPU/TPC/TPG. Good luck!!! I have done this before. Still have some inserts that I have not looked up. Thinking about making my own holders for these for practice.
