I'd be great with old open but not contaminated cans.

Canoe blue is water base and doesn't have the lubricity that the dyekem spotting blue has.
It makes a difference when trying to rub a slide on the ways.
I went from being able to push it to having to use a come along.

One thing to be careful with the water based spotting compound is to clean metal parts after use. It really promotes rust. I learned the hard way.
