this is 80's era model.i'll look for Made In USA sticker.
not the new compact plasticky one.
i am using it for the first time in a long while.
what's the lowest pressure i can set it for
and then just purge it?
the 'on/auto' switch is loose towards the auto position.
it's a slider switch.
will it 'solid up' when there's pressure in the tank?

RCB,
The switch is on a pressure diaphram so it should stiffen when you turn it on. Best practice is to open the drain on the bottom and allow it to purge for a bit then close the valve and allow it to build pressure. If you have not used it for a while you should probably make sure the safety blow off vale is installed and operating freely. I would stay a safe distance from it for the first couple of cycles just to be sure you dont have a new issue that you were unaware of. If your pump has oil in it I would change the oil with 30Wt non-detergent (stops foaming) and clean the air intake filter in the side of the cylinder head. That should get you back up to snuff and pumping happily along..

good answer on the switch.
i do recall it has pull ring purge on bottom ( accumulated water dump )
i'll check filter, i saw where it is.
i have to check for oil fill/drain plugs.

i took a look for Made In USA sticker and
got a bonus!
Made In USA AND General Electric motor!
you bet your bippy i'm starting it up NO LOAD by
leaving petcock on bottom open for about a 10 count.
then next step will be 10-15 PSI.

had a little scare.
read manual once.
i went and started it with VALVE CLOSED.
little compressor didn't like that at all!
anyhow thought about whole situation and
tried it again next day with VALVE OPEN.
it runs.

well i guess it has sat awhile.
probably bought it around '85.
have use 3 or 4 times in all those years.
forget the extra 2, '85 to 2010. 25 year old compressor.
it turned slowly and smoke came from compressor head.
off it goes to lawn mower shop for repair.:)

Have A Nice Day!
