I bought this setup from the guy I bought my new to me lathe from. The chuck is U.S. made, it will need a backing plate to mount. Haven't decided whether I will put it on the new machine which is a D1-6 mount, or to use it on my 12x48 Craftsman. Came with 19 mostly new collets thru 1-1/8th" (China, but seem to be decent quality) and the black gismo in the pics. The collets fit the i.d., but being unfamiliar with the 5c collets I'm not sure what it's function is. Any help much appreciated. MikeP1000371.JPG P1000373.JPG

I believe that black fixture is used to hold a collet that in turn holds an end mill for sharpening on a surface grinder with a magnetic chuck. It allows you to sharpen the end of the end mill, not the flutes. Useful if you have a surface grinder.

Thanks for the info. A surface grinder is on the wish list, so i will put that fixture on the shelf until I acquire one. Mike
