I do a lot of production runs on the lathe. After several hours, tool changes can be tiring. Also tool changes close to a spinning chuck can be dangerous with tired hands. In addition I have a mix of US and Asian holders with different size lock nuts. I needed a better way to grip the holder and a standardized elevation lock nut.

These are made from 416. They swallow the entire post and can be locked using fingers on the knurl or a 6mm Allen key. The Allen key interface is a 12x1.75 grub screw run to bottom and backed up with red Loctite.

I like your approach. Do you also Loctite the post to the holder block?

My import holders would rather unscrew the post than lossen the locknut. I have been considering using thread locker. Any downside to this?

Red locktite will definitely fix your problem

What a great solution. On to the todo pile it goes! It had occurred to me I needed space between the two locknuts but this makes 100% more sense. Thanks for posting.
