I have a Bridgeport I got about 8 months ago. We thought we were going to have enough power to run three phase to the mill. Turns out we are at capacity in our shop. I will have to use the 220 single phase plug I run my lathe and table saw on with a vfd. Can anyone explain what a good budget vfd would give me 3 phase full power for a Bridgeport 9x42 mill. It’s a j head. I don’t know anything about these vfd’s and it seems to be a confusing topic in my opinion. Please tell me everything you can about what I want and how it should be done with what I have.

Save yourself the hassle and get a rotary phase converter. JMHO.

I have a Huanyang , and like it a lot .
You asked for budget, and it's met my expectations.
I run remote switches, and speed control.
I prefer real buttons to a push pad. It was easy to setup, has not given me any reason to worry.
I have a rotary phase converter for my surface grinder, and if I had to do it again, I would do the VFD. The rotary is loud, and hot. But it is solid as well. Good if you have many machines to run.

how big a motor? HP, volts and amps.
You can ask the vendor, they will respond. They did for me. The rule of thumb is to up the size of the vfd, based having some extra so things don't heat up trying to maintain the power.

2 hp motor, 3 phase, 230v/460v, 60 hz

Amps based on voltage and 60hz are 3.1-6.7

so your motor is basically the same as mine.
My VFD is a match... BUT, send an question to the vendor and confirm. It's just better to have them make the recommendation.
Your 3.1 is invalid. it's 6.3 based on 220v

Ya, I was looking at it upside down while typing it. After I realized I was reading it wrong I posted the picture. I don’t understand three phase and vfd’s yet.

Ok, will send the email.
