I just purchased a Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Heavy Vertical Mill with the 50-taper. I'd guess it to be late 40's or very early 50's. I haven't picked it up yet. The price was right. I bought it because I own a Brown & Sharpe No. 2 Light Horizontal Mill and figured it needed company in the shop. Anyway, it is complete and in generally good condition with the exception of chipped paint. The feed rate selector handle is broken near the top. Coincidentally, that handle is broken on my horizontal too. Must be a bad spot for the handle.

The B & S vertical mills seem to be very rare. I didn't realize this until after my purchase while trying to find manuals, parts lists and any general data available. It's pretty sparse. I did find the manual and the parts list, although, not the best quality.

I'd be interested in hearing from other B & S No. 2 vertical machine owners. What are your thoughts on the machine? Things you like. Things you don't. It seems to be a heavy-duty machine capable of series work in a hobby shop.

Thanks for reading ...

congrats on the new addition, sounds very stout if it has a 50 taper!

If it's NMTB 50 or BT 50 I have a few holders/ quick change chucks going for very reasonable money :)

I think I'm going to pass on the holders. Thank you anyway. The machine came with 3 face mills and a couple collet holders. I think I'll end up converting some ER 40 collet chucks into a quick change system for the NMTB 50.
