Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if a brown and sharp 1-2" micrometer model 18B in stainless is swiss made? Somewhere I read an opinion of the valu or econoline of micrometers made by Brown and Sharp to be far inferior to that which is swiss made.

Thanks for any info.

Jon

The value line might be of lesser quality than the ones that are swiss made, but the value line mics are fine mics.. I've seen them used in several shops I've worked, from machine shops, die sops, and mold shops. I have a 0-6" set of the value line B&S that has been used very little and they feel as good as any of my Starrett's at work..

I'll post a pic of my Brown&Sharpe set I have here at home..

I went out and looked over and felt of thimble on the 0-6" Brown&Sharpe set I have here at home...

The thimble is butter smooth, actually smoother.. Where I would see the biggest difference would be on the frame. The value line frames arent finished any where near as good as the higher priced pieces..

here's a pic of my value line Brown&Sharpe 0-6" set I have here at home.. The only micrometers that have been used out of this set are the 0-1 and 1-2 micrometers, the rest have never been used. I've been thinking about selling these, I wonder what they are worth?

Brucer,
I don't think yours are the value-line micrometers as the 1-6 micrometers have a elongated "C'" frame. Your micrometers might be the convertible thimble enamel frame micrometers as the have the short "C" frame. I have the value-line and wish I had got the one's you have as I think they are a better micrometer.
