I have removed the spindle from a BP Series 1 that i recently purchased. Overall seems to be in good shape, but since it came from a school i thought i should check a bit deeper. Mostly just dirty and the collet pin was broken off. The quill didn't retract up by itself and i removed it and cleaned things up. That helped alot. When I tried to remove the spindle from the quill it wouldn't come out. The lower portion of the splines had material rolled over from the inside. Using a file I removed the ridge and got it out. My question now is how to repair it? Can/should i just put it in the lathe an turn it back down flat or is it supposed to have a depression in it, just not that much. It doesnt seem right that there is no washer. The H & W parts list shows the drawbar and an o-ring. What is their supposed to be there? The first picture is the drawbar where it contacts the spindle top.
