I recently bought my first mill, a Bridgeport M head, round ram. As I am new to milling, please excuse my ignorance on the subject. From what I can gather, the serial number is 2596, making the manufacturing date 1943. I got it home and started cleaning and inspecting it. I finally decided to strip all those coats of paint and re paint it. Using citrus strip as I thought it might have lead paint in the mix. Under one of the coats, I found what appears to be WW2 markings. It says, [as close as I can tell] "WAR FINISH, AS DECIDED BY ORDER 10-11D, UNITED STATES, WAR PRODUCTION BOARD" There may be more to this, as the paint stripper my have removed some of it. I took some pictures of it as I was fearful that the paint stripper might remove it. It is printed on both side of the base. I like the thought of using a machine that was in the war effort. After I finish painting it, I would like to replace the Production Board stencil markings. Does anyone know if what I have is the complete stencil or was there more to it?
