I recently traded up to a Bridgeport Ez-Trak Plus mill from a bench top mill and have to say I am impressed. The increased rigidity alone is wonder on to itself. And the smoothness and exactness of the ball screw is so cool. Anyway, while playing with the CNC programming side I began to wonder about the precision of the results. Especially with circles and arcs. This got me wondering about a more generic CNC precision with respect to curves. Are there any standards for this type thing. Watching the EZ-Trak do a circle, it appears to be a step function. Do modern CNC mills do a more continuous motion of the axis during an arc?
