Brake Dresser Wheel

While attempting to dress my diamond wheel on the surface grinder, I dropped the brake dresser and the wheel shattered. I called the vendor (Braemar) and they wont sell me anything less that 10 of them. (even if I buy 10 it is a hassle to deal with their accounting dept - they dont sell retail) The wheel is a 60 grit, 2 1/2 diameter. It is a half inch thick and has a 1 1/8 inch hub. I have tried all the usual vendors and came up empty. Any info on where to get a wheel or if you know of someone who needs 9 of them would be greatly appreciated.

1.125 hub is gonna be the hard part. Check McMaster Carr they have a variety of wheels.
Can you make a new arbor/spindle? Looks straight forward. Then you can make the mounting hole size a more common size.

I tried McMaster and all of the other common vendors. That is why I asked here. I have another dresser but I like this one and would like to continue to use it.

Hey earl just checked good old McMaster Carr and they show a replacement wheel for your dresser listed for a whopping 11 dollars. 93B63376-0BEB-4679-BF20-2BF96E85A51E.png

The Braemar web site does not show the dresser that I have. The dresser that they show on their web site looks like the "brake controlled dresser" shown as the second one on MC's site. I assumed that my dresser was an older model. When I looked at wheels on MC, I tried to search on "abrasive wheels." They show several criteria to search on. I tried to search on arbor size and there was no 1 1/8 hub size listed. At that point I moved on in my search efforts. After I saw your post, I went back and searched on "Brake wheel dresser" and came up with the page that you found. I have the wheel on order and it will be here Monday. Thank you.

Hey Earl, I wanted to ask how well your angle style dresser works at dressing diamond and cdn wheels. I dont want to pay and arm and a leg for a brake dresser but I can afford one of these.

I only plan to use this on a diamond wheel to make machinists flat stones.

I have never used the dresser on a cbn wheel. I have dressed a diamond wheel maybe 2 or 3 times in the year and a half that I have had the new wheel on the dresser. It works. Lots of dust. Wear a respirator. (I always wear one when I am using a diamond wheel - I only use diamond when I am grinding carbide bits.) Be careful to keep the dresser at an angle to the wheel. The dresser tries to "self-align" itself to the wheel. That leads to extreme rpm of the dresser - like 20k rpms! The body of my dresser is non-magnetic so the mag-chuck on my surface grinder will not hold it. I use a couple of 123 blocks to back up the dresser. a couple of lite passes is all it takes for me.

Thanks for the information and warning.

I'm going to draw up plans for one and machine it out of some sort of tool steel so my chuck will grip it. I could buy one but might as well make it for the experience
