I just got a very nice Boyer schultz 6x12 surface grinder in very good condition with all the original scrapings on the way. looks like it hasnt been used much at all. Here is the problem. When you turn the spindle back and fourth quickly by hand it makes a klinking sound. It has around 1" of play before the motor catches. When you first turn it on you can hear the klink sound for a second- klink-klink-klink and thats it. I have used this grinder and when running it is very smooth and has a nice finish, no bearing noise. Is there some kind of coupler between the motor and the splindle like the way they have a hydraulic pump to a motor shaft? I never owned a surface grinder but I have used them for years and never noticed this on others. What the heck can this be? I don't want to tear it down till I hear from the pros. Thank you Jason.
