I have a fairly nice MFC, but the power feed bevel gears are toast. They don't seem to show up very often, and when they do, they seem to run almost $200 for the pair.

I haven't had the patience to try to track down off the shelf gears from Boston Gear, and would rather spend time on other projects than trying to adapt some... Today, I saw a pretty decent looking MFC on eBay that's about 2 hours away for $750 OBO. The seller accepted my offer of $650. I figure I'll take the best parts from that one and mine, keep a couple spares, and part out the rest. If all goes well, I'll probably end up even or better and have a working power feed for the cost of a couple hours of shop time.

My only worry is that the seller is a machinery dealer who's trying to retire... With the mill on my cargo carrier, I'm going to have LOTS of empty space in the back of my SUV... who knows what else I'm going to be temped to bring home with me.

I try to avoid that challenge. It's too easy to get 'just one more.'

Well, I managed to get there and back without buying anything else.
What a great place... they have tons and tons of tools and tooling. I almost picked up some gear cutters, but I wasn't sure which ones I'd likely need. He had a rusty but restorable Porter Cable shaper (about a 10") that tempted me, and a surface grinder that's just a little large for my shop.

I got most of the mill taken apart today and the power feed mechanism is in excellent condition, so that'll get transplanted onto mine along with the correct motor pulley...mine is a single step that's smaller than the standard one. It also has the belt covers so I'll end up transplanting those too.

Sounds like a good buy, then. You showed remarkable restraint. ;)

Sounds like your plan worked out for the best.
Are you going to sell off any of the other parts? I know I am always on the hunt for parts/pieces I need for mine..
