Gentlemen,

Milly is slated to arrive on Monday - and henceforth, November the second shall be known as Milly Monday (actual day notwithstanding). Milly, or Mildred McMilligan, is a 727V.
Lizzy is on the slow boat from China, to pass the Panama in a couple weeks, then freight from Pittsburg to me. Lizzy is a lathe (was that not clear?) of the 1030V variety.

(You are, of course, aware that all machines and vehicles are women, yes?) :grin big:

I got the stands for each, but the nice lady on the phone dissuaded me from buying the levelling feet of PM/QMT as they are a bit big for these stands.

I thought to use some bolts/washers/nuts to effect the same effect - it's what was on the big 'ol Chevalier grinder that I used to run, so I figure what the hey?

Question: What size bolts? I could wait, but I'd rather not have to run errands once the gizmo is here. Anyone with these stands know the diameter of the feet-mounting-holes, and an approximate length that would work - 2 flat washers, 2 nuts, head of bolt is the foot.

Ought I to set them on a chunk of rubber (square of inner-tube from a bike) or just straight on the concrete?

Thank you :)

For my 1236 lathe, i used some 1/4"x4" cold rolled and made a 'base' to spread out the footprint a bit. Then used these 5/8 bolts, and made the pads using some 1/4 steel, and conveyor belt. Pads about 1 7/8" diameter, contact cemented to the steel disk. use 8 feet for the lathe. seems to work ok.

Of course all machines are women. That is because guys care about their machines and provide accoutrements like diamond (cutters), comfort (warm shop), and yes, maybe even a little kiss when it provides that plate of perfect chips.

My avatar is referred to as the "ole girl". She might be rather slow, a little plump around the middle, but she is reliable and when the weather is bad, nice to snuggle up to.

Yes, brother... yes.

My sweety (the human one) has taken time, but come to terms with my other sweety (built by Chrysler) who has outlasted two marriages and three dogs...

Machines... the only woman who will ever give back EXACTLY what you put in... and try to give more even when she's dying from it. My truck's indomitable spirit makes me cry just thinking about it.... she'd break a driveshaft before ever even dreaming of telling me "not right now..." Makes me love and care for her all the more... (and yes, this softieness does indeed carry over to the human woman :D )

How anyone can not look upon their machines with deep affection - on account of their perfect loyalty - I will never understand.
