Well I tried the kit out and it seems to work quite well.
The kit is very simple to use. The kit comes with 1 pint of concentrate, 2 quarts of sealer, and a white plastic bucket, about 2-3 gallons in size.
Mix the concentrate with 9 pints of
Distilled Water. Make sure the parts your going to blacken are absolutely clean. No rust, grease, or dirt, the instructions recommend cleaning with Vim or Comet. I chose Comet and use a scrub brush, a nail brush works great. I chose to ware Nitrel gloves to prevent skin oils getting on the part. Now that the part is clean, the solution should be at room temperature, or if you want bring the temp up to 100'F. Completely immerse, and swirl the part in the solution for 30 second to 5 minutes, depending on the degree of blackening you want. You can see the action happening as the solution has a slight blueish tinge to it, so it easy to observe. Once your satisfied with the blackening, remove the part, rinse with water, and brush , or immerse the part in the sealer. Don't touch it till the sealer is totally dry, I waited 24 hours. And thats it.
Sorry for the poor quality on the pic, my flash was malfunctioning. The top item is tail stock die holder, the bottom is a nudger for my tool post.
According to the instruction you can blacken stainless steel, but you'll have to etch it with 10% sulphuric acid. Since I work at an acid plant were we produce about 1,000 ton a day, acid won't be problem, I'll just have to dilute it from 125% to 10%
