I noticed the gear teeth were cut dry but the ring races were turned wet

That is puzzling about the gears, I would expect them to use coolant for that. I wonder if they did that for the video or if they normally do it that way. I can imagine with coolant you wouldn’t be able to see anything with it flying all over.
 
the guy running the forklift pincer thing at the forging press making the donuts is an artist.

I would think cutting fluid would give smoother gear teeth
I was thinking that too, the teeth did not look that great. For the price of those, I hope they sent that off to grinding and just left that bit out.
 
Crane bearings run -really- slowly. Might not even be hardened on the teeth. You can see the inside race surface shows color from induction hardening.

I got to see some heavy forging at Elwood Forge. SUPER cool!
