Belt Grinder Materials

I'm gathering materials to build a 2x72 belt grinder. Is there an advantage in using aluminum wheels over steel? I have some unknown mystery steel rounds that machine well and have no aluminum in a size suitable. I'll order some if there is a distinct advantage.

I wouldn't think so, I'm using skateboard wheels for idlers and a cast iron flywheel attached to a dc motor for the drive. many many hours.

Steel will last longer. KMG uses steel wheels on their higher end new grinder.

If you have the material already, use it. Even my plastic wheels are holding up well with little sign of wear, so steel should last pretty much forever.
