I have been looking at benchtop milling machines for a while and could not make up my mind what to buy.
So I started really thinking about what I wanted to do with a mill and looking at what milling machine would suite my needs. I decided a horizontal milling machine would probably be best for me
The next consideration was size and weight. I have very limited space and and limited access for heavy lifting equipment.
I had an opportunity to buy either a Nichols or a Barker and chose the Barker because of its small size. I know the Nichols is a more capable machine but it is too big for my small space.
This is the Barker I purchased. It is a model PM serial number 239.
It ha one dial for the cross slide and a lever for the table and the column.
I want to add the other two dials and a riser block so I called for a quote on the new parts. I could buy a PM vertical mill for the cost of these three items.
I had to take it apart to move it into my shop so it was a good time to give it a good cleaning.
