I have just converted a Craftsman 12 inch wood band saw to cut steel. I replaced the pullys and used a 3 HP tread mill dc motor.
Now i want to purchase a quality 80 inch blade suitable for cutting metal but I can't seem to think of where I might find a place to purchase one.
I am afraid to buy from ebay because I do not know enough about them to make a wise purchase. Seeking Suggestions

Gonzo,
I have a craftsman bandsaw I did the same thing with. I used a jack shaft and a couple extra pulleys and belts. I also changed the top bearing guide holder I found on eBay. I get my blades from eBay too. They are 10-14 tooth. Think my next one will be a little finer pitch as I do cut some thinner material.

If you want a blade that is an exact fit you'll have to run a tape measure around the blade path, then go online to vendors who specialize in custom length blades. My Startrite saw uses a 98" blade. I have them made by Ellis Saw company.

They have just about any blade width and tooth configuration you can think of. They're easy to deal with, and not outrageously expensive. I've been using their blades for about 20 years with great success. I always buy the bimetal variable tooth styles, either 6-10 tpi, 8-12 tpi, or 10-14 tpi. My blades cost about $30.00 per blade.

eBay is fine if they have the blade you need.

Key thing is to buy the right metal cutting blade.

There are some good youtubes on choosing the right blade for what you want to cut.

If you have a spare blade you can measure length from that. Easy if you won’t use the blade again to cut the blade and measure linearly. With the variable speed motor you could still put on a wood cutting blade and use it so save the old blades. 80 inch is very standard size.

Why different pulleys? Stronger motor?

https://www.bandsawbladesdirect.com/ For last few yrs I been using the Lenox DieMaster blades which I use to cut steel and SS. But if your not for sure what will work for you then call Ittura Design,he does not have a website but he has a phone. He will help you select what will work best. You just need to know what it is that you want to do,but your not going to get a 10.00 blade from either cause they are the real deal.
