I have an Atlas QC54. I am trying to figure out whether it has Timken bearings AND whether Timken is desirable over babbit.

Thanks. I look forward to learning from this forum.

Babbit bearing models have removable bearings caps that are held in place by 2 bolts. Timken versions the headstock casting is in one piece.

Pretty sure all QC models had Timken. From what I understand redo'ing babbit bearing is a art not too many people know. But learnable. I saw a demo on how to do it a few years back.-J

As I understand it the Timken type are capable of sustained high speed running, but care and good lube is essential with the babbit type even for a short time at higher speeds.

How about an introduction?
