I need to replace the motor on my th54, can I use a generic 3/4 hp induction motor and preserve the drum switch or should I upgrade the switch also?

I did same as I had a 3/4 laying around. Was not going to step down from the original 1/2 to 1/3 hp.

You can keep the switch if it's not too worn; take a look at the contacts
Be aware some Dayton motors are real be-atches to wire for reversing

I was pretty surprised that the manual shows it also came with a 1/3 hp motor. I don't have a problem using two switches, one for on/off and one for reversing, I have done it on other motorse

AFAIK, the factory rated the motor on the 3/8" bed machines up to 1/2 HP. And AFAIK, although you could buy a motor from Atlas, non of the machines came with a motor.
