I would like to start a thread for Atlas owners. I will be making several parts that my lathe did not come with. I will post my parts in this thread and hope others will participate.

To start I modeled my keyed bushings and bushings that hold the gears in place. Later today I hope to finish up the bolts that hold them.

I will post STL and Sketchup files and anyone can use these files usually.

Here is the google drive link until I figure out a better way to upload them.

Seems like an interesting idea but why do they default to metric dimensions in Sketchup. I don't use sketchup much , is there a way to switch in a finished drawing ?

Stevos,

What do you use to open SKP and STL files? It would be best if you converted them to PDF, which almost everyone can safely open without having to track down and install more software. Also, please don't do a bunch of attachments of drawings to posts. Once the thread moves a ways down the screen, they become harder to find. And if someone does a reply to the post that they are in, another copy shows up. Best place to put them is into Downloads\Atlas...\Atlas Lathes\Repairs... Also, please use inches on the drawings. Atlas machines don't do well with mm. If you have a relatively complex part, roundoff errors can eat your lunch.

Google sketch up is the program I use. It's free! For the simple parts it works fine.

Sorry about the metric, I am used to working in metric. If you go into Google sketch up and go into model info you can change the units to whatever you would like in a few seconds.

I agree on not doing a bunch of attachments. I will keep them in one location.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to upload to the site yet? I'll convert them to inch and try PDF and see what happens.

Not sure I can do PDF

What about DXF or DWG?

I spent some time with the new version of Sketchup (Make 2014) last night and figured out the dimension switch. I have never quite had the time to learn Sketchup as well as I should.
I find it very nice program to inspect others work . I like the ease of picking dimensions off of the drawing. On that note while you can export as a PDF you would have to fully dimension the drawing as it is basically just a picture at that point . As to STL ,DXF and DWG there are free viewers for all of these formats and I think almost any CAD software will import a DXF\DWG. I have been using Solid Edge 2D and Designspark Mechanical, both free.

I just made one of those inner bushings for an atlas I am fixing up for a friend. I made mine out of A2 as the original seemed to be hardened.

Any chance you can verify the dimensions? I was just going to use mild steel. I am a machining newb and don't know any better.

I did do a video of it but I have not done the edit yet. I have the part already on the lathe so I would need to remove it to get dimensions. You don't have any of them for the machine that you can measure?

The 2 critical dimensions are the outer diameter of the smallest diameter of the part I think I measured it as .498. The length I cannot remember, maybe .625 but on that dimension you can get away with a bit oversized but not under.
