It is awful frustrating when you are half way thru a post and your computer resets automatically for updates. So here goes again. I just bought a Th42, it is a D series I think. It came with the Cabinet type bench that it was mounted on. I did not look closely at until I was looking at other Atlas lathes on the internet and saw a bench identical to the one that I have. On closer examination, It has an Atlas badge located between the two doors in the front. It has a 1-1/2 inch wooden top and a sheet metal cabinet underneath. The front corners look Art Deco. I have taken pictures but haven't put them on the computer yet. Has anyone see or been aware of these benches.

Don't know about your lathe bench... But as for lost work when writing: If you have Microsoft Word, you can set it to do an auto-backup every so often. I have mine set for 1 minute. Then, use Word to write your message and if there is a computer glitch, you will likely never lose more than 1 minute of work.

Also, when cutting from Word and pasting to a forum, Word is complicated and can add a bunch of formatting that can make it weird when pasted to various places, so, open Windows Notepad, which doesn't support any "fancy" formatting, then paste your message there first and it will strip all but the basic formatting from the message, then cut and paste from Notebook to the forum.

Learned how to do that years ago after occasionally losing carefully written, detailed work emails I was writing directly in the email window, and/or accidentally sending incomplete, unedited or un-proofed material before it was ready.

Gene,

I don't know what OS your computer has but most allow several settings WRT OS updates. You need to get into it and set it to always ask before running an update and always ask before rebooting.

Atlas built and sold either three or four different types of benches for their 10" machines. The first and most basic was the one with cast iron legs and an open shelf below. The second was a hardwood cabinet. And the third (or third and fourth) was a sheet metal cabinet. All had 1-1/2" wood tops and all could be had with a sheet metal drip pan. The cast iron leg version, which stayed in production I think throughout the enter run, turns up fairly frequently. The cabinets are relatively rare. You are luck to have found one.

Thanks for all the response. I feel lucky as well to have it. I think I will try to restore it also. I will heed the computer hints and thanks again.
