Hi, I acquired an Atlas 10100 "square head" Mk2 that was dropped on end- the tapered rollers feel a bit notchy and probably should be replaced soon. Does anyone know if the same Timken part #s from the 618 will work on the MK2? The price from Clausing is insane but they are quite reasonable from Amazon and other bearing dealers. Anybody have any hints on changing these? I'm sure a press is required.
The 618 Timken numbers I believe are:
Races: 07196
Bearing cones: 07079 and 07100

Mark,

I don't know for certain from personal knowledge but don't see how they could be. The Atlas 6" manuals all treat the cup and cone as one part (so it's possible that both cones are the same) but the 618 parts lists all show two different part numbers for the two bearings. The 10100 manuals show the two bearings to be the same. It is possible that Clausing changed the part numbers without changing the bearings so that one of the two could still be the same, but not both. Unless someone on here has already done it, your best bet is to pull the bearings and get the Timken numbers off of them.

Thanks Robert, I figured you'd chime in:) It seems no one else has done a roller bearing change on a MK2-I might be the first one! Or if they have they're not telling. So I guess it's time to head over to Harbor Freight and get one of their cheap hydraulic presses. I'll keep you posted. I might try the Yahoo forums too.

OK. Don't forget that there are two Yahoo groups to check. However, if you're going to change them anyway. you may as well go ahead and pull them out and look.
