How difficult is it to cut down a 42" lead Screw to fit a 36" model.

My lead screw for my 10F -TV-36 shows significant wear in the middle 12 " and I have an opportunity to purchase one from a 42" model.

I have heard of people cutting these down and re-threading the end but I'm not quite sure just what is involved?

The lead screw will go through the spindle, but I would try to rig a rotary support for the left end. Counting the portion that's inside the spindle, you'll have about 3O or a little less inches unsupported.

Otherwise, just cut it off, and using the drop-off as a pattern, turn the right end down (to 0.500" I think) and thread it 3/8-24.
