Hi guys,

Putting back together my atlas 10 for restoration. When I got it, the power crossfeed didn't work. After taking it apart I saw that there was nothing for the leadscrew to grab on the mitre gear (no key or keyway)

What do I do?

There is topic covering this a couple pages back, I believe. There are a couple of ideas, adding a keyway to hold a new key in place with small screws for example. Using a screw that has a key shape to the bottom and threaded through to engage the keyway groove.

The best choice, of course, would be to locate a replacement gear. But of the two suggested fixes, although multiple tapped holes with stud locked set screws with flats ground on the noses is easier, a keyway with key held in place with several small screws would in my opinion be much less likely to destroy the lead screw in the case of a jam or crash.

:phew:Howdy - I'm a new owner of a th54. I had the exact same problem and was ready to drill the gear and put a pin in it then filing to make sure it doesn't mess up the screw. I thought I would give it a look on here and you solved it and looks like I was on the right track. Thanks Pat

I would suggest that the "shallow groove and new key attached with several small screws" method would be greatly preferred over just screws or pins. It would certainly be kinder to the lead screw.
